The business model that the\nfashion industry is currently using is known as the linear economy. In this\nmodel, big amounts of resources are being used in order to produce large\nquantities of clothing pieces that will be worn in a relatively short period of\ntime, and after that, they will turn into waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This model focuses on big-scale\nmanufacturing and at a consumption rate that keeps growing every year. Fashion\nbrands offer micro-seasons that last only a few weeks and consumers are eager\nto buy the latest release. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The use of this model during the past centuries has put the textile and apparel industry on the global agenda as one with a high environmental impact. Fashion is responsible for 10% of the global carbon emissions, an enormous amount of global waste generation, and 20% of the global wastewater, according to Global Fashion Agenda<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But this is not all, the\nindustry is also using over 15 000 different chemical substances during the\ndifferent stages of the manufacturing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The linear economy model is\nnot working. It is consuming major quantities of resources, using enormous\namounts of energy, and generating waste all over the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trying to solve this\nsituation, there has been born a new model that seeks the opposite of linear\neconomy: circular fashion, with the\nmain goal of reducing the industry\u2019s environmental impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what is circular fashion? <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n


<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Circular fashion is an\nalternative model that promotes that products and resources do not become waste\neasily, but they can keep their value on time. Therefore, the amount of waste\ngenerated by the fashion industry can be considerably reduced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is definitely more than\nrecycling, as it represents an innovative industrial and economic model.\nCircular fashion is a restorative model, that aims to optimize the use of\nresources, minimize the extraction of virgin resources and increase the use of\nrenewable energy sources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, the fashion brands\nwill be manufacturing more responsible and non-toxic clothing pieces, ensuring\nmaterials can continue to add value even after being disposed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is, without a doubt, a huge\nopportunity to increase the value of current businesses and to reduce the\nenvironmental footprint of the fashion industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
